Constitution of The Happy Managers

A DEMOCRATIC APPROACH TO PROVIDING A SERVICE

A message from the site creator and his dream of an enterprise driven by YOU

“I know that to make this work it needs to be full time and therefore needs to support me and my family.

However I do not see that this needs to preclude the dream of it being a  community driven enterprise.   All commercial enterprises are ultimately driven by their customers so why not make the link something more direct and tangible ?

The goal is to create a training and mentoring resource that is moderated, commercially viable and sound and yet owned, shaped and driven by its users.  A form of Electoral Patronage that will hopefully create a service that is truly in touch with the needs and wants of its audience.”

Commercial Ownership

TheHappyManagers is a commercial enterprise.  It is a Limited Liability Company Registered in New Zealand.

In order to survive it will require feeding and watering , hosting and content provision on a commercial scale.

For this reason the Directors of TheHappyManagers will maintain control over certain aspects of the company and site and it will remain a commercial enterprise.

However the bulk of the site content and direction as a business will be controlled via the Community.

The Directors will, if need be, maintain the ultimate veto.

Community Guided

Most of the content and direction of the site will be guided if not actually controlled via the community itself.

There will be a pseudo  democratic hierarchy  that will even allow non-paying community members to have a say in the running of the community.

The structure of this will be the following:

  • Non-Paying but registered members of the site will NOT be able to vote for their representation but will be able to lobby them for change.
  • Patron’s above a certain level, will be able to vote at a prescribed time, for the Moderators of the site, and lobby those Moderators for content publication or change.
  • Patron’s above a certain level will be eligible for running for, and being voted on to the Moderators team for the site.  These members will also be able to submit content and suggestions to the moderators team.

Community Controlled

Moderators of the site

The elected Moderators of the site will be able to collectively moderate content and approve delivery of content onto the site including both the main site, the Social media channels (Youtube etc.) and the Forums.

Rationale of the democratic Patronage approach

The overriding rationale is that the more you contribute financially to the community the more influence you should be allowed access to.

That this should not be an overly costly or financial “race” for influence.  All levels of contribution are to be fixed and reasonable as far as this process is concerned.

That a small and manageable group of volunteers will control the site Moderation (direction, content et al) and that these should be elected by all the paying Patrons.

The effort for Moderation of the community should be spread across the community and for this reason non-moderators’ should be used as filters to ensure already supported content or changes are put into the moderation pool.

All community members should be able to influence the communities direction but this influence should be stronger and easier with those contributing more.

The desire is ultimately to be a community that is most responsive to the community of users that support and rely on it.
